As part of his recent interview to profile publications, Stefan Winkelmann, the general director of the French company, said that their 4-cylinder power unit W16, with a working capacity of 8.0 liters, is the “last of its kind”.

According to Wikipedia (free encyclopedia) data more than 100 years ago the Frenchman Gaston Muzheott came up with the idea of creating a W16 engine. And in 1995 was created in a single copy of the car Jimenez Novia. Under his hood was an inflatable 4.1-liter W16 engine, created by the fusion of four Yamaha motorcycle motors, and its total power was 560 horsepower.

After about 10 years, the French automotive brand Bugatti introduced the Veyron hypercar with a 4-cylinder 8.0-liter W16 engine that could develop an impressive 987 hp. Over time, this figure was increased to 1,184 (this power was given to the Veyron Super Sport). After that, the engineers of the company, from this engine managed to squeeze out 1,479 horsepower.

interview with the journalists of the newspaper Car Advice, Bugatti CEO Stefan Winkelmann admitted that the W16 is “the last engine of its kind”, adding that the development of a new generation of this engine will not be continued.

According to him, the W16 engine means a lot to the French brand and its development could continue, but in order to be “ahead of the rest of the world” in creating the most powerful hypercars, you need to keep up to date and create new engines.

Finally, Mr. Winkelmann stated that Bugatti’s engineers will try once again to modernize the W16 engine in order to squeeze out a real maximum from it. Ultimately, the automaker Bugatti will have nothing to do but resort to the electrification of its model range – this is necessary in order to comply with the current, fairly strict environmental standards. Stefan Winkelmann separately noted that this will not affect the final power of the French hyperkars.

Not so long ago, we became aware of the Bugatti Chiron, which is completely assembled from Lego. The model is full-sized and you can ride it!
