Elon Musk named the date of the premiere of Tesla Model YMay 24, 2018
The premiere of the new compact crossover Tesla Model Y can take place on March 15, 2019. The head of the American manufacturer of electric cars Ilon Mask wrote on his Twitter, answering the question about the possible date of the debut of the model.
At the same time, Musk later explained the spontaneous choice of this date by the fact that he liked the idea of presenting a crossover for the “Ides of March.” At the same time, the head of Tesla stressed that the company will consider the possibility of holding a premiere on this day, since the initial debut of Model Y was scheduled for the period between the end of 2018 and mid-2019.
Earlier it was reported that a compact electric crossover will appear on the market no earlier than 2020. The transfer of the output of the SUV is partly due to the failure of the launch of the mass production of the most affordable model Tesla – Model 3.
Americans are not going to create a new chassis for a compact crossover – it will be based on the existing chassis of Model Y, which will significantly accelerate the process of creating SUV. At the same time, some technical and stylistic solutions will be borrowed from the older Model X model. For example, a compact crossover will receive branded rear doors, which the company calls “wings of a falcon”.
According to preliminary data, Tesla Model Y will be equipped with two motors (one on the front and rear axles) and will be offered with battery packs of different capacities.
