Elon Musk announced the readiness of the loop tunnel in Las VegasSeptember 19, 2020
Musk claims that The Boring Company’s first loop tunnel outside Las Vegas is “nearly complete.”
A pair of tunnels, for which The Boring Company is responsible, are located under the Las Vegas Convention Center. They will allow site visitors to travel from one end of the convention center to the other in less than 2 minutes, much faster than a standard 15-minute walk.
According to the head of Tesla, the digging of the tunnels was completed in May, but the company has planned to officially unveil and launch the closed system at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January 2021. Now it is claimed that the opening ceremony will take place exclusively online.
The Las Vegas Loop System is an important showcase of the company’s technical capabilities and, if all goes according to plan, will only form a small portion of the system that can fit under much of the metropolitan area. The loop of the Las Vegas Convention Center will initially connect to the Strip and later expanded to a metro station at the new Resorts World hotel.
The project proposal from the company shows a loop linking all major tourist destinations along the Strip, as well as two terminals at McCarran International Airport. The convention center’s ring system is worth $ 52.5 million and, once completed, will be able to carry up to 4,400 passengers per hour.
