Electric Volkswagen ID.R set a world record for 99 Turns RoadsSeptember 3, 2019
This is the third record of an electric prototype in 2019. Prior to that, the unofficial championship was for the Range Rover Sport SVR. In the current configuration, ID.R is equipped with two electric motors with a total capacity of 680 horsepower.
Volkswagen continues to prove its superiority in the electric car segment in practice. Their prototype ID.R once again set a world record for climbing the mountain. This time, the famous Chinese highway, “99 Turns Road,” located on Tienmen Mountain in the south of China, was covered for speed. The height of the mountain is 1,519 meters, and the road itself is replete with bends on the serpentine.
The electric car under the control of the pilot Romain Dumas started from 200 meters above sea level, and completed the track at around 1,300 meters. The journey took only 7 minutes 38.585 seconds. The length of the route was 10 906 meters. And the previous unofficial record belonged to the Range Rover Sport SVR – 9 minutes 51 seconds.
At the moment, the electric prototype Volkswagen ID.R is equipped with two electric motors with a total capacity of up to 680 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque. Acceleration to 100 kph takes only 2.25 seconds, and the maximum speed is limited to 270 km / h.
