Electric Mercedes EQE spotted in trialsDecember 1, 2020
Auto publications have published “spy” photos of the electric Mercedes EQE sedan. The prototype of the newest car has already received a serial body, but it still has temporary taillights. Market launch is scheduled for 2022.
Work on a fully electric version of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class continues. These new spy photos of the German brand’s new car, which will receive the EQE designation, show a heavily disguised sedan prototype. The car has been spotted on public roads in Germany. Unfortunately, the disguise covers the entire car, blocking our view of important details.
However, there are a few interesting things to talk about. Firstly, it is, obviously, the serial body of the model, in the form of a large and stylish liftback. The wheels are positioned very close to the corners of the car, creating short overhangs and a long wheelbase.
Compared to previous EQE prototypes, this one has no camouflage on the door handles.
Surprisingly, Mercedes is using traditional handles on this prototype rather than the retractable handles on the new S-Class. Perhaps the latter could be offered as an additional feature.
If you can see serial headlights in front, then temporary ones are installed in the back. Judging by the black areas at the bottom of the rear bumper, Mercedes is trying to trick journalists into thinking that this is a car with an internal combustion engine, meaning there are exhaust pipes.
In fact, the EQE will be an all-electric sedan below the flagship EQS in the automaker’s lineup. Basically, it will be the EV version of the E-Class, but it will be based on a completely new platform and will have a different look and feel.
Recent trademark filings suggest Mercedes is preparing several different versions of the EQE. The names EQE 43, EQE 53 and EQE 63, filed with the European Union Intellectual Property Office, hint that a sportier version from AMG will join the regular versions of the new car .
Not so long ago, we wrote that the Mercedes-Maybach GLS received a more budgetary version. Initially, the debut will take place in the Chinese car market, and then the model may debut in the Russian market.
