Electric Lucid Air to receive 900-volt system for the first time in the automotive industryFebruary 6, 2020
The premium all-electric powertrain sedan will compete in the market with the Mercedes-Benz EQS. The debut will take place in April this year as part of the New York Motor Show.
The project of an all-electric premium sedan was introduced back in 2017. At that time, it was assumed that the basic version will be equipped with one electric motor, and the main “feature” of the model will be a comfortable lounge and additional equipment. Nevertheless, the company did not stop at the release of the “classic” executive car on batteries.
According to company leader Peter Rawlinson, said that the model will be equipped with a 900-volt electrical system. At the moment, not one electric car has such high rates. For example, the Tesla Model S runs on a 400-volt system, while the new Porsche Taycan uses an 800-volt platform. Increasing the voltage allows you to accelerate charging by increasing power, as well as more efficient use of energy.
In theory, Lucid Air will be able to charge a battery of 100 kW * hours in 10-15 minutes. But now there are no charging stations of similar power. Therefore, in real conditions, charging up to 80% will take about 30-40 minutes.
As the power unit on the basic configuration will be used one motor mounted on the rear axle, and capable of developing up to 386 horsepower. The top version will receive a twin-engine installation with a total capacity of about 1,000 horsepower. Cruising range will be 380 km in the base and 500-600 km in the top configuration.
The debut of the electric car will take place in April 2020 as part of the New York Motor Show.
