The city electric hatchback Honda e has won the prestigious Car of the Year competition in Germany.

This was reported by the press service of the manufacturer. For the first time in the history of the competition, the main prize was awarded to a Japanese brand car.

The revolutionary electric car has joined the collection of awards. In addition to the main prize, Honda also won the environmental category at the New Energy competition. Earlier, the car was noted by the journalists of the specialized British editions Autocar and News International, the Italian Quattroruote, and the designers awarded the car the prestigious Red Dot Design Award.

Recall that the electric car was officially presented a year ago at the Frankfurt auto show. It belongs to the category of subcompact urban hatchbacks. Its length is about 3.9 meters, and there are 4 seats in the cabin – for the driver and three of his companions.

When creating it, the designers drew inspiration from the image of the first generation Honda Civic, which debuted in 1972.

The Honda e is powered by a 100 kW (136 hp) or 113 kW (154 hp) electric motor and a torque of 315 Nm. Power for it is provided by a lithium-ion battery with an energy capacity of 35.5 kWh, which allows you to cover a distance of up to 222 km without stopping at a speed of up to 145 km / h.

An interesting feature of the car is the absence of the usual rear-view mirrors, which were replaced by miniature video cameras. In addition, it is the first production car in the world to have digital screens occupying the entire length of the dashboard. Two at the edges are used to display the “picture” from the rear-view cameras, a digital instrument scale is intended for the driver, and a dual touchscreen in the center is used to control auxiliary functions and the multimedia system. The cost of a car in Germany starts at 32,997 euros.
