Electric crossover races to begin in 2022October 21, 2020
The new motorsport championship was named Supercharge.
The organizers of the new Supercharge motor sport championship spoke about their plans. So, it is reported that the first races will be held in 2022. The idea for the new championship belongs to the former Porsche Motorsport Director and Sauber Formula-1 Team Director Max Welty.
The competition will take place between 670 hp all-electric SUVs. The races will take place on short tracks in urban areas filled with various obstacles. 15 races can take place in one day, while each of the eight teams participating in the championship will be able to send two riders to the track.
The teams are reportedly provided with a chassis called SC01, designed by Volkswagen Motorsport. It is on its basis that teams will be able to assemble their SUVs. Such a car is equipped with two electric motors providing four-wheel drive and accelerating the car from standstill to 100 km / h in 2.5 seconds.
The tracks of the Supercharge championship will resemble the tracks for rallycross. Each will have a maximum length of 1 kilometer and will include a 2.5-meter springboard, an area with low adhesion surface properties, a water hazard and a loop that each crew must pass once per race.
