Photo-spies again noticed a test prototype of the future electric mid-size crossover BMW iX3 on winter tests without the usual camouflage. Also, new details about the future novelty were cleared up. The photos were at the disposal of the publication Motor1.

The first information about the development by the German concern BMW of a purely electric version of the crossover X3 appeared in 2016. Then in 2017 the company registered the trademark BMW iX3. It became clear how the future electric vehicle will be called.

The electric power unit of the novelty will be based on the one that stands in i3. Although, of course, it will be scaled. The technical characteristics of the BMW iX3 company is not yet reported. Externally, the electric SUV differs from the standard X3 by the absence of exhaust pipe fittings and a large hatch for charging on the left front fender.

According to the representatives of the manufacturer, he is investing in the development of traction solid-state storage batteries of a new generation. Their kit for one electric vehicle can increase the power reserve to 700 kilometers. Similar technologies can appear on serial cars not earlier than 2021. The release of the BMW iX3 can take place at the turn of 2019-2020. Therefore, count on such indicators for the novelty in the first years of sales is not worth it.

It is expected that the serial electric vehicle iX3 will be equipped with a battery with a capacity of 70 kWh, which will provide a power reserve of 480-500 kilometers. This is comparable to its competitors: Jaguar i-Pace, Mercedes-Benz EQC and Audi E-tron Quattro. Their expected maximum range will also be about 500 km. The innovations from Jaguar and Mercedes-Benz will make their debut next week at the Geneva Motor Show. The premiere of electric Audi is worth waiting for in autumn at an exhibition in Paris.

Also, BMW is developing a plug-in hybrid version of the X3 PHEV, which is rumored to be equipped with a two-liter petrol turbo and an electric motor with an estimated total capacity of 300 horsepower and a power reserve of one electric traction – 48 kilometers. The plug-in hybrid will not be released until next year.
