The journalists have published photos of the Maserati GranTurismo 2022 model year. A test prototype of the Italian novelty used a modified Alfa Romeo Giulia body.

The next generation Maserati GranTurismo is set to arrive in 2022. The new spy shots offer a fresh take on a redesigned coupe that uses a redesigned body from the Alfa Romeo Giulia sedan.

Maserati engineers have to make some major changes to the Giulia to keep it in line with the planned changes for the GranTurismo. At the front, the shape of some of the air intakes has been changed – in the lower panel and the radiator grill. Both of these sections have drilled holes that appear to provide increased airflow. The wings are wider and the front end seems to be longer than the Giulia.

The changes in the back are more subtle. The only obvious change is the expansion of the wings.

The new GranTurismo will be powered by the Maserati Nettuno V6, the same 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine found in the MC20 supercar. This motor develops a power of 621 hp. (729 Nm). At least in the case of the MC20, an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission is offered as a transmission.

Maserati will also offer a GranTurismo with a Folgore electric powertrain. The latter consists of one electric motor at the front and two electric motors that are mounted on the rear axle. It is powered by an 800-volt system and the Italian brand boasts a new generation of inverters with silicon carbide (SiC) components.

It is also known that the new GranCabrio will also appear in 2022. It would be identical in many ways to the GranTurismo, with the exception of the ability to lower the roof.

In September 2020, Maserati announced that the new GranTurismo will debut in 2021. However, a change was made to the roadmap according to which the new product will go on sale in 2022. This assumes that the premiere of the Maserati GranTurismo will take place before the end of the year, and the start of sales can be expected early next year.

Not so long ago, AutoTimesNews wrote that photos of the new Maserati Grecale 2022 crossover appeared on the Web. Maserati is expanding its lineup with a new compact crossover, which will be called Grecale. The automaker has published several images of the novelty. There is also a crossover render created by an independent designer.
