Drag racing: Porsche 911 Carrera S or Chevy Camaro ZL1September 21, 2020
A video has been posted on the YouTube channel showing a race between a Porsche 911 Carrera S or a Chevy Camaro ZL1. Both cars do not even think to lose to each other, although they have a significant difference in power.
Why race between two cars from such different … genres? The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is the most powerful performance of the Camaro sports coupe, under the hood is a massive supercharged V8 engine with tons of power and torque. Meanwhile, the Porsche 911 Carrera S is far from the most powerful 911 ever.
It is true that the Camaro has a significant power advantage in this match. On paper, it offers 650 horsepower versus just 443 horsepower. compared to 911.
There is also a big difference in weight – 226.8 kg in favor of the German coupe. Interestingly, both cars have similar performance figures when accelerating to 100 km / h and at a distance of a quarter mile (402 meters). But it looks like Porsche makes better use of its power than Chevrolet.
It is also possible that Porsche is underestimating the 911, with some reports suggesting that the turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder has over 480bhp. (358 kW). That’s still far below the Camaro’s performance, but power is only one component of speed. That doesn’t mean anything if you can’t get your wheels caught on the ground, and the Carrera’s rear engine configuration certainly gives it an edge on the starting line. Perhaps this is why official statistics from Porsche and Chevrolet actually show that these cars are surprisingly close in a straight line.
During the first of three races, the Carrera completely destroys the Camaro. The rough surface used for the race isn’t ideal for the high torque the ZL1 can boast, even with launch control enabled. The 911 did a lot better at the start, and while the Camaro pulled back a bit towards the end, it wasn’t enough.
