Drag racing: “charged” hatchback Mercedes-AMG A45 vs. Jaguar Project 8November 25, 2020
The team from the CarWow Youtube channel decided to find out if the hot hatchback Mercedes-AMG A45 can beat the British super sedan Jaguar Project 8.
The latest video, which was posted on the CarWow YouTube channel, shows the race between the hot German Mercedes-AMG A45 hatchback and the British super sedan Jaguar Project 8. The “clarification” between the two cars took place on the runway – the cars were driving a standard for drag racing, the distance is a quarter mile (402 meters).
Jaguar has a distinct advantage over Mercedes. The supercharged 5.0-liter V8 in the Project 8 sedan produces 600 horsepower (700 Nm), which is then sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed gearbox.
It does not have a launch control function like the Mercedes car. The latter has a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine under the hood that produces 421 hp. (500 Nm), which is transmitted to all four wheels via an eight-speed transmission.
The first drag race starts from a standing start. Mercedes is off to a solid start and can keep up with Jaguar as the sedan struggles for traction in the first two gears. However, then, the British car starts to come off. He covered the quarter mile in 11.8 seconds, or slightly faster than Mercedes’ 12.1 seconds.
The next race begins on the move, with the Jaguar quickly pulling away from the less powerful Mercedes. The braking test also allowed Jaguar to defeat the German hatchback. One aspect that didn’t really matter in the race was the weight of their cars. The Jaguar weighed 1,672 kilograms, which is little more than Mercedes’ 1,630 kilo hatchback. There is one big difference in price, however: Mercedes’ starting price of £ 56,000 looks much more attractive than the £ 180,000 Jaguar
