Drag racing – 900hp Mammoth TRX vs. Camaro ZL1 supercarMay 3, 2021
Renowned tuning studio Hennessy raced in a straight line with a Chevy Camaro ZL1 sports coupe and a 900-horsepower Mammoth TRX truck.
A supercharged V8 engine is virtually the only link between the Chevy Camaro ZL1 sports coupe and the huge 2021 Ram 1500 TRX pickup. The TRX we’re talking about in this article is far from your typical Hellcat-powered Ram 1500 pickup. This is a redesigned Mammoth 900 TRX built by none other than Texas tuner Hennessey.
We’ve seen this Mammoth TRX before when Hennessey tested it on a dynamometer. As you can see from the results, the Mammoth TRX engine can deliver 728 horsepower to the rear wheels – 150 more horses than the regular 1500 TRX.
On paper, and as the name suggests, the Mammoth 900 TRX develops up to 912 hp. (1184 Nm), which is achieved through extensive upgrades.
It is reported that Hennessey Performance has completed all the work required to create this particular Mammoth TRX and it is time to return it to its owner. But first, the company decided to test how it performs in drag racing against the Camaro ZL1. The latter is in full stock form.
For comparison, the ZL1 produces up to 650 hp. power and 881 Nm of torque. The car is powered by a supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 V8 engine. It’s certainly less powerful than the one under the hood of the truck, but lest we forget, the track-oriented pony car is considerably lighter than the truck. Again, the Mammoth TRX uses an all-wheel drive system, which should give it an edge on the starting line.
With an all-wheel drive drivetrain and a large power gap to the advantage of the Mammoth TRX, how long can Ram hold the lead against Chevy for the rest of the straight track? The video at the top of this page should answer this question.
Not so long ago, AutoTimesNews wrote about the sale of an exclusive Chevy Camaro Z57 2001, with a body from a 1957 Camaro. An exclusive 2001 Chevy Camaro Z57 version is on sale at auction. Among other changes, the car received a body from a 1957 Camaro.
