Fans of drag racing decided to check who is faster – the American Dodge Challenger Hellcat coupe or the German BMW M5 sedan. The Dodge is more powerful, but the BMW player has all-wheel drive.
The guys from the Coches.net team decided to conduct two races in a straight line between the American coupe Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and the high-performance Bavarian sedan BMW M5 Competition. If in the first race, the M5 driver used an all-wheel drive configuration, then the second time he chose only the rear axle drive. Yes, this video is in Spanish, but you don’t need to understand the language to understand what is happening here.
On paper, the Challenger SRT Hellcat has a clear advantage in the race. Its 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine develops 707 horsepower and 881 Nm of torque. A six-speed manual gearbox is used as the transmission for this instance of the American muscle car.
For comparison, the Bavarian BMW M5 Competition sedan boasts 617 hp. (750 Nm). The only gearbox option for this car is an eight-speed automatic. The main advantage of the sedan here is its sophisticated all-wheel drive system, which can send all the power to all wheels, and only to the rear – if the driver activates a special mode.
In the first race, BMW defeats its rival by a pretty good margin, but there is a reason for this.
With all-wheel drive and launch control, the driver, in fact, only needs to crush the gas and hang up. Challenger Hellcat with a manual transmission of such capabilities. The Dodge driver should ideally perform a bunch of acceleration and clutch pedals to get a good start.
