Dongfeng ix5: new photos and new detailsJuly 13, 2018
In April, a new model of the Chinese cross-coupe, Dongfeng ix5, was introduced at the Beijing Automobile Salon. And the manufacturer has not yet revealed all the details about the model, but fresh photographs reveal details of the exterior and interior.
Already at the end of this year, the model Fengguang 580 will receive a blood relative, built on a similar platform, but carried out in the body of a cross-coupe. The Chinese concern is preparing to bring to market a new model Dongfeng ix5, which will receive a modern design, two different grilles, and a lounge in the style of Audi and Range Rover.
Despite the fact that the harbinger of the serial version has already been officially shown at the Beijing Motor Show in April this year, detailed information about the novelty was not available. Now the company has published new photos of the exterior and the first photographs of the interior. It is noteworthy that the novelty will receive two different grilles depending on the configuration. It can be a “classic” grille with horizontal beams, or a modern one with a point design.
And the dimensions of the car are still not reported, but of course they will not differ much from the donor, which has a length of 4,680 mm, a width of 1,845 mm, a height of 1,715 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,780 mm. And Fengguang 580 is also offered in the seven-seat version, but the body of the new cross-coupe will not allow the third row of seats to be placed.
In general, the design of the production version will not change compared to the model shown in Beijing. And the concept of corporate style looks attractive and in the spirit of the times. But as often happens with other models of Chinese production, the savings affect some of the details – the wheels are disproportionately small with respect to the car and wheel arches, and visually want to add a couple of inches.
Under the hood will be installed a classic engine for Chinese models – a 1.5-liter 150-hp turbo engine. Couple with it will be installed variator transmission and only the front drive.
To the salon there are no questions – it is made in the style of modern models of Audi and Range Rover with a lot of touch panels, digital “device” and practically missing physical buttons. It’s too early to judge the quality of the materials.
Of course, the cost and configuration are still unknown. It also remains a mystery whether the model will be exported to other markets.
