Dongfeng has unveiled a new electric crossoverMarch 12, 2020
Chinese Dongfeng introduced a new model: Yixuan RV, a car that will be sold under the Aeolus brand. An interesting car is its technical base.
The DS 3 Crossback was the first newcomer to the PSA Groupe to use the CMP platform, the basis for relatively compact models, which is now also used among the Peugeot 208, 2008, Opel Corsa and its electric brothers.
This modular platform was introduced in 2018 and was the result of a joint development with the Chinese company Dongfeng. It is logical that the French-Chinese joint production is used not only by the Groupe PSA. Dongfeng now presents its second model, which uses the now well-known base.
The large Chinese holding Dongfeng has many sister brands and joint ventures. Dongfeng Fengshen is one of those sub-brands for which Dongfeng uses the Aeolus brand in the international market. Aeolus introduced Yixuan last year, a 4.66 meter long sedan, which was the first Dongfeng product to use the CMP base developed in conjunction with the Groupe PSA. Thus, Yixuan is no less than 36 centimeters longer than Peugeot 2008, Europe’s largest “user” CMP. The wheelbase of Yixuan 2.68 meters is almost the same as that of the “Frenchman” (2.65 meters).
Yixuang is available with its own 125-hp three-cylinder turbo engine. and a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine producing 150 hp. There is also an electric version of the sedan, Yixuan EV. It has a 47.7 kWh battery, and a set of batteries that provide 163 horsepower to the electric motor. This power unit is not completely identical, for example, Peugeot e-2008.
Now Dongfeng is adding the Yixuan RV to its model family. The letters RV mean “Recreational Vehicle”, but this does not mean that Aeolus is a “tourist”. The RV is a brand new crossover with CMP technology. The Yixuan RV is 5 centimeters shorter than the sedan, but with its width and height of 1.83 and 1.60 meters, it is 1.8 centimeters wider and 1.1 centimeters taller than a four-door car. The wheelbase is identical – 2.68 meters. From a mechanical point of view, the equipment of the Aeolus Yixuan RV also coincides with the Yixuan.
An electric option has not yet been introduced, but the Chinese consumer can certainly count on the arrival of the Yixuan RV EV. Images of the Aeolus interior are still not available, but it is likely that the driver’s seat of the SUV matches Yixuan in the form of a sedan.
