Details appeared on the updated Lexus IS sedanMay 13, 2020
Initially, it was assumed that the model will receive a completely new platform. However, Lexus has taken the path of modernization, albeit a very significant one.
Japanese Lexus is working on an updated IS sedan. On Wednesday, May 13, the foreign portal MotorTrend shared some information about the 2021 model. It is already known for sure that the new product will not switch to the new “cart” TNGA, but will retain its current platform. However, the changes will be quite significant – in the first place, they will affect the chassis and suspension settings. The exterior of the novelty is a little refreshing – the designers will install a radiator grille with a darkened effect and prepare a new design for the headlights.
Inside, the car should receive a redesigned front panel with new control interfaces, as well as a more advanced multimedia system. The engine range has not yet been officially confirmed, but most likely it will switch from the current version due to the preservation of the architecture.
In this case, three power plants will be available to customers – a 2.0-liter turbo engine with 241 hp and a 3.5-liter V6 with two boost options – 260 and 311 hp. respectively.
An 8-speed automatic transmission will be used as the transmission. There will be no “charged” version with index F after the update. However, the developers plan to prepare a complete set of IS 500, which will feature a powerful 3.5-liter engine with a return of 416 hp. at 599 Nm. The car is already completely ready – its presentation was to be held at the New York Auto Show in April, but now the event has been rescheduled for the summer.
