Details about the new Volkswagen Golf GTI
May 13, 2020Agency Autocar on Wednesday, May 13, distributed some details about the “charged” hatchback Volkswagen Golf GTI new generation. Specialists of the portal traveled on the pre-production concept of the model and compared it with a car of the last generation.
The Eighth Golf GTI is built on the MQB modular platform. Front steel subframe replaced aluminum. The new Golf GTI has a front-wheel drive system, and therefore its main competitors are still the Ford Focus ST and Honda Civic Type R.
The Golf GTI’s main innovation is the VDM (Vehicle Dynamics Manager) system, which centrally monitors the operation of the steering wheel amplifier, throttle, gearbox, electronic XDS differential lock and optional adaptive DCC shock absorbers. As before, you can choose between driving modes: in addition to Comfort, Eco and Sport, a personalized Individual is now available.
Contrary to forecasts, the hot hatch did not get a moderate 48-volt hybrid system: the new VW Golf GTI is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbo four with a capacity of 245 hp. (370 Nm). The engine operates in conjunction with a 6-speed manual transmission or 7-band DSG “preselective”. The Golf GTI accelerates to 100 km / h in 6.2 seconds and accelerates to a maximum of 250 km / h.
Autocar experts especially emphasized the tenacity of the rear axle in corners and stability at high speed. The hatchback behaves predictably during sudden rebuilds and withstands large lateral overloads. Sales of the new Golf GTI will start this fall. The cost in the UK market is £ 29,900.
