Daimler will create exclusively electric vehiclesSeptember 20, 2019
“The future of the automotive industry is purely electric, and Daimler is ready to make the right choice!” – This was the speech made by one of the official representatives of the German automobile concern Daimler.
Employees of the Daimler concern, which includes the premium company Mercedes-Benz, have just announced the decision to stop all future developments in gasoline engines. The German automaker will focus solely on creating all-electric powertrains. This means that Mercedes-Benz will follow this development strategy.
“The future of the automotive industry is purely electric. Daimler is fully transitioning to creating electric motors for its future models, ”said Markus Schäfer, head of development at Daimler, in a recent interview.
Daimler is currently preparing to introduce the latest generation of internal combustion engines for its various models – we are talking about a six-cylinder in-line engine, which will be installed in the E- and S-class, as well as some crossovers. This generation of ICE may be the last for the concern.
Mr. Schaefer also noted that Daimler has no plans for the future development of gasoline engines, although he notes that priorities may still change. However, at present, the focus is on creating exclusively electric motors.
Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz is slowly switching to an electric development strategy. The EQC electric crossover has already been presented (pictured), and soon the EQB and the EQS executive class sedan will be shown. And of course, there is a manufacturer of small city cars Smart, which will also soon become a fully electric brand.
