Daimler Trucks has unveiled the all-new Western Star 49X professional truck. According to the German manufacturer, “This is a next-generation professional truck series, designed and built from the ground up to deliver unmatched performance and efficiency.”

Following the introduction of the Freightliner Econic SD garbage truck in 2018, Germany’s Daimler Trucks continues to expand its range in North America with the addition of the all-new Western Star 49X. According to the German manufacturer, “This is a next-generation professional truck series, designed and built from the ground up to deliver unmatched performance and efficiency.”

The 49X is approximately 158.76 kg lighter than its predecessor, the Western Star 4900, thanks to a new frame that offers much greater RBM (resistance to bending moment) strength.

C-channel frame reinforcement and multiple parent rail front frame extensions are available depending on the truck’s application.

The cab is now equipped with an innovative anchorage system with special isolators for optimal stability and reduced driver and cab fatigue. Daimler says it is the largest cab in the segment, offering 10-13 percent more space than direct competitors. In addition, the new mounting system has been extensively tested on a cab vibrator that reproduces 1,287,475 km of use.

The new 49X has a wide range of support systems. These include side protection assistance, emergency braking assistance, adaptive cruise control with full stop capability, lane departure warning, automatic wipers and headlights, automatic high beams and others.

Daimler says the new Western Star 49X will be available to order starting this winter, with first deliveries scheduled for the first months of 2021.
