“Anette Winkler had a great positive impact on Mercedes-Benz and especially on the Smart brand,” said Dieter Zetsche, the head of Daimler. Winkler worked in the German concern for 23 years and was the head of Smart for the last eight years.
Earlier it became known that Daimler intends to invest in the company Smart in the French Ambach 500 million euros. This amount will go to the modernization of the plant, which, among other things, will establish the production of a compact electric car Mercedes-Benz EQA.
Sales of the new electric hatchback, which will be the first representative of the “green” sub-brand EQ, will start in 2020. The novelty will be designed to compete with the BMW i3. By 2025 the family of Mercedes-Benz electric cars will include up to 10 models. It is assumed that by this time, electric cars will account for 15% to 25% of all sales of the German brand.
As for Smart, after 2020 the company will only sell electric cars. At the moment, the brand has completely abandoned cars with traditional ICE in the North American market.
