Crossover Volvo XC90 will become electricJanuary 25, 2020
The Swedish automaker has confirmed the release of the electric modification of the crossover XC90 next generation. The release of new items is scheduled for 2022.
The release of the electric Volvo XC90 has recently been officially confirmed. According to specialized media, the third-generation crossover will be the first model based on the modernized SPA architecture. The brand will choose the same platform for the next generations of models of the 60 and 90 series. Recall that earlier the Swedish company has already opened accepting orders for the XC40 electric crossover. We are talking about the model XC40 Recharge P8 AWD, which so far is available only to fans of the brand in Europe.
The course on electrification, which Volvo decided to adhere to (like dozens of other automakers around the world), boils down to the fact that the brand is going to bring “battery” versions of its existing models to the market.
For the production of premium sports electric cars, Volvo has a subsidiary company Polestar, which has retrained into an independent brand from a small court tuning studio. Experts suggest that the electric Volvo XC90 will preserve, among other things, the “soft” hybrid familiar to fans of the brand. But the diesel version is not worth the wait, because the Swedes are going to abandon diesel fuel, offering customers more modern, and most importantly, environmentally friendly alternatives. Also, according to the president and CEO of Volvo Car Group, Hokan Samuelsson, future SPA innovations, including the XC90, will receive an automated driving function.
