Crossover Mazda CX-5 will receive a turbocharged engine?June 21, 2018
Thanks to another information leak, which occurred in the Japanese company Mazda, it became known that in the engine range of the compact crossover CX-5 can appear 2.5-liter power unit, which is also used by a larger crossover CX-9.
As well as the Mazda6 sedan, the mid-size Mazda CX-9 crossover is equipped with a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine. Not so long ago, there were reports that the same motor can get a compact crossover Mazda CX-5.
According to the certification certificate of the California Air Resources Board (CARB), which fell into the hands of one of the American automotive publications a couple of hours ago, the Japanese brand Mazda can use the same 2.5-liter turbocharged engine that the CX-9 is equipped with in its smaller best seller CX-5. The presented document shows that at present, Mazda is testing this engine on both cars.
The 2.5-liter turbo engine in the CX-9 crossover produces a maximum of 227 hp.
Now the CX-5 is offered either with the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine of the Skyactiv family, whose power is 156 hp. (The “ceiling” of torque is 203 Nm) or a 2.5-liter engine designed for 187 hp. power and 252 Nm torque.
While turbocharged engines will undoubtedly play a big role for Mazda, do not think that it will completely abandon the diesel analogues. As part of his recent interview, Mazda officials said that the engines from the Skyactiv-D diesel family are still relevant and are unlikely to lose in user demand in the near future. Note that not so long ago, there were published spy photos of the sedan Mazda6 with a new engine Skyactiv-D.
Finally, we note that at the moment there is no data on when the compact crossover CX-5 with a new 2.5-liter turbocharged engine will be presented, as there is no data on its power. We expect this to happen either at the end of this year or early next year.
