Crossover GAC has replaced the generation. The premiere is in ParisSeptember 25, 2018
In China, GS5 crossover sales of the first generation started in 2012. The model is built on the same platform as Alfa Romeo 166: this “cart” GAC bought from FCA in 2008. In 2014, the crossover was slightly refreshed, having received the name Super. The crossover of the first generation has already been discontinued, the best year for it was just 2014 – more than 76,000 copies were sold, in 2017 the choice was stopped by only 1,419 buyers. Nevertheless, GS5 was not sent to resign – the second generation SUV is ready for debut, and its premiere will not be held in China, but in Europe: the crossover will be presented on October 2 at the Paris Motor Show.
While GAC has spread only the sketches of the new GS5, although its appearance is no longer a secret – “live” crossover photos appeared in the base of the Ministry of Industry of China in May this year. Most likely, the cross has retained the platform FCA, because it built and other latest models of the Chinese concern. The new GS5 has got a family radiator grille, and its rear lights are now interconnected by an LED jumper – it’s a fashionable solution now, it’s found in many brands, from Kia to Mercedes.
According to preliminary data, the second generation GS5 length is 4695 mm, which is 55 mm smaller than the crossover of the 2014 sample. The width is 1885 mm (+31 mm), the height is 1700 mm (+10 mm), the wheelbase is the same – 2710 mm. There are no official pictures of the salon, however, earlier spy photos were posted on the web. Judging by those shots, the interior of the GS5 was also completely redesigned: a new front panel, a steering wheel and a “fitting”, a multimedia system with a large “touchscreen” that occupied almost the entire center console.
It is expected that in China GS5 will be offered with a petrol “turbo-quater” 1.5 power of 152 or 169 hp. The Chinese media are giving the crossover a six-speed “automatic” Aisin. It is not yet known whether the model will have a full drive. The previous SUV was offered with gasoline turbo engine 1.8 (177 hp) and “atmospheric” 2.0 (147 hp), transmission – robot, five-speed manual or automatic. The GS5 of the first generation had an all-wheel drive version.
In China, a new crossover can appear before the end of this year, in the home market, GAC sells cars under the Trumpchi brand. But in Paris, the crossover probably debuts simply as GAC GS5 – the name Trumpchi is too much in tune with the name of the US president, and to this leader the attitude in the world is very ambiguous. Note, in Europe, the GAC sedans are not represented, the Chinese concern is only just planning to expand. Previously, the company was going to sell its cars in the US, it participated four times in the Detroit motor show. However, the increase in tariffs for goods from the Middle Kingdom (among other things, this is the initiative of Donald Trump), apparently, has put an end to the plans of the GAC to conquer the States.
