Mazda CX-4 is still sold only in China. It is expected that next year the model will also appear in Japan.

Built on the platform of the CX-5 cross-coupe CX-4 debuted in April 2016. Then in Mazda said that the new model is intended only for the Middle Kingdom, there is also the production of a coupe – it is produced at the joint venture JV Mazda and FAW. But soon the CX-4 will cease to be an exclusive for China: according to the Japanese blog Car Report, in 2019, sales of the model will begin in the Land of the Rising Sun. Apparently, the assembly for the home market is organized at one of Mazda’s local plants.

It is not yet known with which CX-4 engines will be offered in the brand’s homeland. In China, the model is available with gasoline atmospherics engine Skyactiv-G 2.0 and Skyactiv-G 2.5 with a capacity of 158 and 192 hp respectively (both are familiar in CX-5). The first engine is paired with six-speed manual or automatic transmission, the second – with 6-speed automatic transmission. “Japanese” with a two-liter engine has a front-wheel drive, the model with a 2.5 engine is offered only in version 4WD. It is possible that for Japan, the cross-coupe will be equipped with the Skyaktiv-D 2.2 turbodiesel – in the CX-5 this engine produces 175 hp and is combined with 6-speed automatic transmission.

The length of the Mazda CX-4 is 4 633 mm, the width is 1,840 mm, the height is 1,530 mm, the wheelbase is 2,700 mm. For comparison, the dimensions of the first generation Mazda CX-5: 4 540/1 840/1 670 mm, the distance between the axles is 2,700 mm. At the crossroads CX-5 of the second generation, presented in autumn 2016, the dimensions remained almost unchanged, it became only 5 mm longer and 20 mm wider than its predecessor.

In China, the CX-4 occupies the second line on sales among Mazda models: in 2017, 73 041 cars were sold. The most popular model of the brand in the Celestial Empire is Mazda3 (142,498 units), the third place is for Mazda6 (53,493 pieces), and the CX-5 is only in the fourth position (49,555 units). The price of the Mazda CX-4 is from 140,800 to 215,800 yuan. “Senior” crossover CX-5 (second generation) in China is 169,800 – 245,800 yuan.

It is possible that the CX-4 will reach other countries. For example, this was the case with the seven-seat CX-8 crossover: the model was initially positioned as an exclusive model for Japan, but recently the G8 began to be sold in Australia, and later this year it will appear in China.
