Concept Ford Shelby GR-1 will get a 700 hp supercharged V8 engine.January 21, 2019
The extravagant Ford Shelby GR-1 concept introduced in 2005 will go into production. Under its hood will be a V-shaped engine, whose power will exceed 700 hp.
Almost 15 years ago, the rather unusual concept of a sports coupe was presented at the Pebble Beach auto show. The car, named Shelby GR-1, in turn, became the receiver of the 1964 Shelby Daytona Coupe. But, unfortunately, Ford did not manage to launch its rather brave concept at that time into mass production.
The American company Superformance recently announced that it was able to sign an agreement with Ford and Shelby on the production of the Shelby GR-1 concept in accordance with the “Law on the limited production of cars.” We already know some details about the new product.
Superformance CEO Lance Stander announced that the serial Ford Shelby GR-1 will not receive the original 6.4-liter V10 engine with which it was once presented. Under its hood will be the supercharged V8, which is very similar to the one that is equipped with the current Mustang Shelby GT500. Power is expected at 700 horsepower and even a bit more.
As for the transmission, it seems that Superformance is going to use the same Tremac dual-clutch transmission, which is equipped with the Shelby GT500. That’s just for their project, they use its 6-step version.
The circulation of the “forgotten” novelty will be 325 units, price data is not yet available.
