Compact Fiat 500L will remain without a successorMay 26, 2020
Instead, the Italian automaker intends to bring to the market a universal subcompact electric car built on the platform of the new 500e.
Family Fiat 500L compact van rolls off the assembly line since 2012. Currently, this “five-door” is very difficult to compete with other models of the brand, so Fiat decided not to create a direct heir for it. The president of Fiat Automobiles, Olivier Francois, said this in an interview with Auto Express.
According to statistics, over the past year, sales of the Fiat 500L “sank” one and a half times. At the same time, according to the head of Fiat, instead of two of its models – a compact van 500L and a compact cross-country 500X – the brand will create a universal crossover that combines these two formats. The new Fiat 500XL will get a modern electromobile platform with a flat floor, which will help make the novelty no less spacious than the 500L.
At the same time, experts note that the current 500L and 500X are not in a hurry to leave the conveyor, and in the near future they will completely acquire hybrid versions. Recall that the same electric 500e did not remove the “five hundredth” gasoline from the Fiat model range. Both cars plan to produce in parallel.
As for the future of the Fiat 500XL, experts do not count on high sales due to the rather tight competition, as well as the rather high price tag, judging by the 500e. There is no information on the debut date of the “green” news. Most likely, electrocross will appear only in a year.
