Compact FCA models move to Peugeot 208 architectureAugust 31, 2020
FCA and Groupe PSA are getting closer to merging. Today there is also information about the technical details.
So, FCA is going to transfer its own compact models to the CMP platform, which was created and used by PSA. On this architecture, the Peugeot 208 and 2008 are built, as well as the Citroen DS3 Crossback. All these cars are produced not only with internal combustion engines, but also with electric motors. This will help FCA increase the production of electric cars.
Last month, according to Autonews Europe, FCA sent its own suppliers a letter asking them to stop research and development on upcoming B-segment models (meaning small or subcompact). As noted in the company, the production of small cars is planned on the basis of CMP at its own car plant in Poland. It is emphasized that the FCA corporation is capable of producing there up to 400 thousand cars based on CMP.
It is possible that the new platform for compact cars will provide FCA with the opportunity to revive the already forgotten names, in particular, the Fiat Punto, which was once popular with European consumers.
In addition, the debut date of the restyled Peugeot 3008 cross was recently announced. It should be emphasized that the updated model of the French brand will acquire small, but noticeable changes in the design of the exterior and interior.
