The basis of the Tesla Model Y will form a slightly modified chassis of the Model 3 electric vehicle. Thus, the automaker will minimize the cost of developing a new model. At the same time, unlike its platform donor, the crossover will have a lounge with a third row of seats – the use of such a scheme will be possible through the use of a higher frame.
According to the documents, the first pilot sample will be rolled off the Gigafactory 1 enterprise in California by June 2020. In September of the same year, the serial production of the Model Y will reach 2,000 copies a week, and by the end of the year, production will increase to 7,000 units. in week.
In October 2020, the production of Tesla compact crossovers will be launched at the new plant in China, which will be called Gigafactory 3. By the beginning of 2021, up to 5,000 cars will go off production lines weekly.
Recall that the moment Tesla is preparing to release a serial electric truck Semi, which can pass without recharging the batteries up to 1000 kilometers.
In addition, the company is developing an electric pickup truck that, according to Musk, will receive a futuristic design in the style of cyberpunk. Already in the standard, the car will have two electric engines with “crazy torque” and four-wheel drive. The car will be able to drive about 650-800 kilometers without recharging the batteries.
