Classic Jaguar XK120 plugged into a power outletJune 5, 2020
Lunaz has collected orders for the classic Jaguar XK120 – deliveries will begin before the end of 2020
Startup Lunaz, founded by former Renault F1 Technical Director John Hilton, electrifies classic British cars. The company’s portfolio includes several projects – the 1953 Jaguar XK120 electric, the 1961 Rolls-Royce Phantom V and the 1955-1965 Bentley Continental. Orders for the Jaguar have already been accepted, the shipment of electric cars to customers will begin in the third quarter of 2020.
Work on the electrification of classic models is carried out in several stages. First, Lunaz restores the car, using only original and new parts, and then changes the installation to electric. It includes one or more electric motors and lithium-ion batteries of different capacities that can be recharged from a wall outlet. For the Jaguar XK120, they prepared a 375-horsepower installation and a battery with a capacity of 80 kilowatt-hours. On one charge, the electric car will travel 400 kilometers. Acceleration to 100 kilometers per hour takes less than five seconds.
According to Autocar, Lunaz completed testing and development of the electric Jaguar at the end of March, even before the UK introduced restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, when the acceptance of orders started, the country already had quarantine, so that applications from customers accepted online.
Prices for electric cars Lunaz start at 350 thousand pounds
As for the other two models, Bentley Continental and Rolls-Royce Phantom, they are also available for order. Moreover, a buyer for the electric Continental S2 Flying Spur has already been found – this is an unnamed collector who plans to use the electric car as a car for every day. Electric Rolls-Royce Phantom, in turn, can purchase premium hotels.
