The French brand will return to the family car market next year with the “brother” Peugeot 508.

For the first time in eight years, Citroën is preparing its new global model, which is positioned as the successor to the C6 as its flagship. It is worth noting that over the past decade, station wagons have not been very popular in Europe, but the French company plans to expand its presence in other regions, primarily in China, where sales of family cars so far surpass SUVs in terms of performance.

The upcoming model, which will appear at the end of 2021, was first introduced in the 2016 Cxperience concept. The dimensions of the show car corresponded to the previous C6, but a hybrid power plant with a gasoline-electric connection was used as a power source. The futuristic concept also anticipated Citroën’s Advanced Comfort technology, which has since become available on the C4 Cactus and C5 Aircross.

Considering Citroën’s attention to comfort and the brand’s popularity in China, a new wagon will inevitably debut a new technology that can “emphasize confidence, comfort and calmness” and will include a Progressive Hydraulic Cushion suspension that promises a “magical carpet effect”. The novelty will be installed on the same adaptable EMP2 platform as the sister Peugeot 508 and the new DS 9, and will be offered with both traditional ICEs and the PHEV system, which will provide electric mileage of more than 62 km. As demand increases, a fully electric version will appear.

“We need to find the right balance between global balance and local adaptation. When you talk about China, you talk more about electronic equipment, about chrome and about the exterior of the car. Plus, safety rules, road conditions, engine and fuel sizes are different. There will be many things related to tuning the suspension, choosing engines, color, material and the overall supply of the car, ”said Citroën CEO Vincent Kobe.

Interior styling will vary from region to region according to local tastes. According to Kobe, Citroën is currently completing the development of a station wagon design, which will be rated as a top-level model of the market, along with the likes of Audi and BMW.
