Citroen enters the Indian market with a new programMarch 19, 2019
Concern PSA is going to present a line of budget models for the local market, but the C5 Aircross crossover will become a pioneer. It is likely that the company will build models on the new platform.
The PSA concern has apparently actively adopted a new development plan, the basis of which is the distribution of its brands to all world markets. The day before we reported that Peugeot will be developing in North America, and Citroen is preparing to enter the Indian market. The debut of the first model (crossover C5 Aircross) will be held April 3, 2019.
Citroen CEO Linda Jackson recently noted that the company will bring to the local market a range of affordable cars created as part of a new development program for affordable cars. While the details are not communicated, but it will be possible to use a new platform, or “carts”: PF1, EMP1 and EMP2.
“All forecasts for India say that the market will grow exponentially,” Jackson said. It is expected that by 2025 it will take the third place after America and China. However, it is rather difficult to reach the leading position – more than 80% of the market is distributed between the companies Maruti Suzuki, Tata, Hyundai and Mahindra.
The second model for Indians is very likely to be the Citroen C3 Aircross, because local buyers have turned away from sedans and prefer hatchbacks with crossovers.
