The world debut of the new five-seat crossover Citroen, built on the EMP2 platform (with a semi-independent rear suspension), was held in April 2017 in Shanghai. In the Chinese market C5 Aircross came out last fall, in Europe, the same sales SUV start in late 2018. It was expected that the difference between the European and the Chinese version would be only in motors, but there were more differences.

The exterior design of the European C5 Aircross is the same, with the model being slightly more compact: the length is 4,500 mm, which is 10 mm smaller than the Chinese version, the width is 1,840 mm (-20 mm). The height and wheelbase are the same – 1,670 and 2,730 mm respectively. The ground clearance of the European is 230 mm (the same figure is for the sibling Peugeot 3008), the Chinese version – 201 mm.

In addition, the model for Europe has a more spacious trunk: from 580 to 720 liters under the shelf, depending on the position of the rear seats and 1,630 liters with the seats folded. The volume of the trunk of the Chinese version is 516/1 310 liters. By the way, the European Citroen C5 Aircross rear – three separate folding seats, like the Picasso compacts, and the Chinese cross backs folded in a proportion of 60:40. Like the Chinese colleague, the European C5 Aircross has received a new suspension with hydraulic power limiters (Progressive Hydraulic Cushions, PHC): standard shock absorbers added a pair of hydraulic buffers, which “extinguish” blows during the compression and rebound strokes. Today, this suspension is still in the restyling Citroen C4 Cactus, and later it will appear in other models of the brand.

In Europe, C5 Aircross will be offered with four motors, all of them are already familiar to other machines of the PSA concern. The petrol range is represented by a turbojet 1.2 PureTech (130 hp) and a 1.6 turbocharger turbocharger (180 hp). Diesels – four-cylinder 1.5 BlueHDi (130 hp) and 2.0 BlueHDi (177 hp). The most powerful engines are the new eight-speed automatic transmission EAT8, the remaining engines are combined with a six-speed manual transmission. Drive in the model with ICE – only the front. Next year, a rechargeable hybrid with an electric motor on the rear axle will be on sale. The cumulative output of such a C5 Aircross is about 300 hp, only a hybrid cross-country can drive about 60 km.

Note, in China, C5 Aircross is available with petrol turbo four 1.6 THP and 1.8 THP with a power of 167 and 204 hp. respectively, both motors are combined with a six-speed automatic transmission. Probably, the hybrid crossover will also reach the China in 2019.

In the list of equipment for the Europe SUV are: digital “cleaning”, wireless charging for the smartphone, front seats with massage function, a system for contactless opening of the trunk (enough to hold a foot under the bumper), panoramic view cameras, panoramic roof, adaptive cruise control. Also for the model, the GripControl system, changing the mode of operation of the traction control electronics, automatic emergency braking, lane holding, collision warning, and road sign recognition are provided.

European prices C5 Aircross has not yet been announced. In China, the crossover is worth 152,700 yuan. In the China they sell a SUV of local assembly: the production is set up at the plant of the joint venture Citroen and Dongfeng. For the Old World, Citroen C5 Aircross will be produced in French Rennes-la-Jane, and Peugeot 5008 is also assembled there today.
