Chrysler was given another chance: a cross based on the Jeep Grand Commander and an off-road station wagonDecember 24, 2018
In the near future, two new products may appear in the Chrysler lineup based on models from other American brands.
Last spring, the seven-seater coupe Jeep Grand Commander entered the Chinese market. Initially, the cross was declared as a model intended only for China, but soon the Grand may appear also in the States, though it will be sold there under the Chrysler brand, which, like Jeep, belongs to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. This is the publication Allpar, citing its own sources.
Most likely, the outwardly new Chrysler crossover will differ from the brother under the Jeep brand not only with emblems, but also with the decor. In addition, if the Jeep Grand Commander is produced at the FCA and GAC joint venture located in the Chinese city of Changsha, then for the US, the release of the novelty will be arranged at one of the local sites. By the way, insiders are talking about a three-row crossover, although in the Celestial Empire the model still has a five-seat option – it is called “just” Commander. Apparently, this version will not appear in the States.
Recall that in the lineup Jeep was already a model named Commander – frame SUV, which was released in 2005-2010. But the cars of the new family have a bearing body, the crossovers are based on an upgraded version of the Compact US Wide platform with a transverse engine and the main front-wheel drive. On the same “cart” built and Jeep Cherokee.
On the motor range of the future crossover Chrysler data yet. In China, both Commander and Grand Commander are available with a gasoline turbo four with a return of 234 or 265 hp, paired with a nine-speed ZF automatic rifle. For both crosses there is a full drive.
Meanwhile, in addition to the turned Grand, Chrysler may have at least two more new models. So, in 2020 or 2021, the electric minivan, built on the theme of last year’s Portal concept, will debut in the States. Plus, the expected cross-wagon, which allegedly will be created on the basis of the sports sedan Dodge Charger (Dodge brand also belongs to FCA). Note, Charger is a type of Chrysler 300, and the “ 300” itself must leave the conveyor in a year – it is quite possible that the off-road “shed” will inherit from it the index. No other details about these Chrysler updates yet.
In general, today only two models are sold under the Chrysler brand – the already mentioned Chrysler 300 sedan and Pacifica minivan. Demand is falling: in January-November 2018, 153,539 cars of the brand were sold in the home market, which is 10% less compared to the same period last year. But once Chrysler sold at home for 500,000 – 600,000 cars. It was even rumored that FCA liquidated the brand, which, for a minute, turned 93 years old. However, judging by the rumors about future updates (though not all of them are original), Chrysler still gave another chance.
