Chinese electric car Nio ES8 did not let passengers out of the cabin due to software updatesFebruary 6, 2019
An unusual traffic incident occurred in downtown Beijing. Eletkromobil kept the Chinese family “hostage” for more than an hour.
Environmentally friendly cars are rapidly gaining popularity around the world. To withstand serious competition, automakers are constantly upgrading their models. Such high manufacturability, at times, leads to curious cases. So, on one of the central streets of Beijing, the electric car of the Chinese brand Nio stalled right while driving, writes portal ixbt.com.
The driver of the “green” car, having received a notification from the system about the available software updates, decided to start the process on the road. However, the owner of the new Nio ES8 did not take into account that in order to update the firmware, the car would have to be turned off.
As a result, the car stopped right in the middle of the road, and its doors and windows were blocked. In such a “hopeless” situation the driver and his passengers were more than an hour – that is how much time the system took to upgrade software. During this time, the car managed to attract the attention of local police.
It is known that the automaker has apologized to the injured party. The company also reminded that before each update, the system warns that the car will be completely disabled.
