Chinese BYD unveils newest powertrainJuly 28, 2020
We are talking about a new motor under the Xiaoyun brand and a modern robotic transmission. This pair compares favorably with existing analogues.
In March 2020, BYD announced that it would create five subsidiary companies that produce auto components at once. One of the subsidiaries is Fudi Power, which is entrusted with the creation of innovative power plants.
The company made its debut at the motor show in Chengdu: here it was announced the emergence of the “motor” brand Xiaoyun. In parallel, the new firm presented two new products: a 1.5TI engine and a 7-speed “robot” with two clutches. Such a power plant will be tested on a gasoline version of the BYD Song Plus crossover. Recall that this model was promised to be presented in September.
The new Xiaoyun 1.5TI engine receives a two-flow turbocharger, an electronically controlled control valve, a variable valve timing system, intelligent temperature control, etc. It is known that former BMW Group minder Uwe Heuer had a hand in the development of this engine.
The advanced “robot”, in turn, boasts a longer service life – we are talking about a 25% increase in this indicator. The announced efficiency is 95 percent. In tandem, the new engine and transmission guarantee good fuel economy.
At the same time, the advanced engine is better adapted to driving in urban conditions and emits much less noise.
