Chinese analogue of Mercedes-Benz GL-Class goes on sale
July 9, 2020The first copies of the Beijing BJ90 have already reached dealerships. Many experts doubt the prospects of the new model because of its high cost.
BAIC launches the Beijing BJ90 SUV. The car is much like a premium German Mercedes-Benz GL-Class. According to the portal “New Cars”, the first product samples began to arrive at dealers in China on Thursday, July 9. We emphasize that certain copying from the premium Mercedes was officially agreed. The first sales of Beijing BJ90 began in China back in 2017, then it was available only for public procurement.
From the exterior, the differences from the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class are minimal – we note a different design of the grille and upgraded bumpers, as well as a different design of the front and rear headlights. The dimensions of the car are 5171x1995x1860 mm with a wheelbase of 3,100 mm. The car interior has a luxurious performance – we note decorative inserts on the front panel of noble materials, a stylish steering wheel with brand symbols and a large multimedia screen.
Instead of the classic gearshift lever, a swivel washer is used, and the central armrest is wide and comfortable. Of the increased comfort, we also note the possibility of electrically adjusting the front seats using special keys on the center console.
The engine range of the Beijing BJ90 consists of two power units. Note that both engines are original from Mercedes-Benz.
The “younger” engine with a 3.0-liter volume can develop 333 hp, while the more powerful 4.0-liter engine has a return of 422 hp. Engines work in tandem with 9-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive system. Pay for Beijing BJ90 will have a very considerable amount – the basic version will cost 998,000 yuan
