The latest news is related to the 6.2-liter LT2 V8 engine, and more specifically to the fact that its mass production will be launched at the engine company’s plant in New York. LT2 will join the many other engines of the American concern GM, which also includes the Chevy brand.
Production will then be transferred to the same enterprise where the company will assemble the new generation of Corvette. Production is scheduled to begin later this year.
GM group president Mark Royce said in an interview: “The New York plant team solves the task of organizing the production of this new engine,” adding that it will meet the level of quality expected by the company’s customers who have ordered a new generation of sports coupe. This plant employs over 1500 people.
The engine, which Chevy announces as the most powerful of the basic offers in its entire history, develops 495 horsepower. The transmission offered an 8-speed automatic transmission with dual clutch. According to the company, less than three seconds will be spent on acceleration to 100 km / h, and the starting price of a car with such an engine will be less than $ 60,000.
