Chevy explains why the base version of the new Corvette all-season tiresJuly 25, 2019
A new generation of American sports coupe, in the basic version is equipped with a very sticky all-season rubber, which was developed by the guys from the company Michelin.
For a sports car, tires are very important – that is why the Chevrolet Corvette 2020 model year uses the most modern tires. Michelin has developed a new tire for the model, the Pilot Sport All Season 4, which can cope with overloads of 1.0 G during lateral grip on a drift, but at the same time retain its functionality at low temperatures.
“More customers than ever say they really want to ride the same tires for three seasons,” said Corvette sports coupe project project manager Tej Uhter.
Chevy is still working on the chassis settings for the new generation Corvette. So far they have managed to get an overload of 0.95 g on the Pilot Sport All Season 4E rubber.
The new Michelin tire has a tread pattern similar to that used in the Pilot Sport 4S summer tire, but its structure and composition is different. “The new tire offers two to three times better grip in the snow,” said Lee Willard, lead development engineer for the Michelin tire, in an interview with Car and Driver. ,
Information about the performance of the new 2018-2019 Corvette coupe model year is still a mystery. According to the company, the new product with the optional performance enhancement package Z51 Performance Package accelerates to 100 km / h in less than 3 seconds. Maximum speed remains unknown. The novelty has received an 8-speed “automatic” with double clutch, the last two gears which maximize the efficiency of the gearbox, while the rest focus on performance.
