Chevrolet will provide the McLaren team with the Indy 500 racing engineDecember 4, 2018
In the race “500 miles of Indianapolis 2019” will take part Fernando Alonso.
Next year, Alonso will play for the McLaren Racing team, and under the hood of his race car, engineers will install the V6 from Chevrolet. With the same engine on the Dallara chassis in May of this year, Will Power (Penske team rider) came to victory.
Alonso has previously participated in this competition last year. Then, as part of the team Andretti Autosport, he confidently walked in the race and even took the lead, but he was let down by the Honda engine, which failed 27 before the finish.
Chevrolet and McLaren also cooperate not for the first time. Their teamwork began in 1966 in a series of Can-Am races, and for seven years in a row their race cars won about 70% of all competitions.
Then Chevrolet retired from racing and returned to IndyCar only in 2012. Since then, cars with their engines from 118 races won 73. Therefore, it is not surprising that the previous partnership has been revived.
Meanwhile, Nicolas Latifi will replace Robert Kubica in the Williams reserve.
