Chevrolet updated the engine range of the Express vanMarch 5, 2020
Chevrolet Corporation has decided to refresh the line of engines of the Express model, produced since 2003 in one generation.
The Chevrolet Express van was released back in 1995, and since that time has changed only one generation – in 2003 the company changed the design, making it look like passenger cars, and installed new LS engines in the car.
From that moment, Express is implemented without any changes. However, despite the serious competition from other American car makers. Express remains an important model for Chevrolet – in 2019, the corporation managed to sell 77 thousand units.
After 20 years of presence in the car market in one body and with one set of power units, the van will finally acquire restyling. According to representatives of the automaker, very soon a new, more efficient engine will enter the engine lineup.
So, the place of the 6.0-liter V8 will be taken by the 6.6-liter engine, which first appeared on the Chevrolet Silverado HD 2020 model year. The engine has a direct fuel injection system and develops 401 hp. and 629 Nm.
The corporation hopes that the new motor will be popular – according to their information, approximately 70% of customers prefer a more voluminous power unit to 6.0 liters, for this reason the 6.6-liter should be even more popular.
As for the transmission, there is no information yet, but most likely the Express van will also inherit the box from Silverado HD and it will be a 6-speed automatic transmission. The appearance of a new engine is expected for cars in the 2021 model year, which will be on sale in late summer.
