The pre-series Buick Velite 6 wagon debuted in China last year. The model is a variation available only in the PRC of the hybrid liftback Velite 5, which, in turn, is a converted Chevrolet Volt. In 2018, the Velite 6 was shown in two versions – in the form of a rechargeable hybrid and an electric car. Now it turned out that the Buick version of the PHEV was abandoned. But the electric car will enter the Chinese market before the end of this year. The public premiere of the commodity wagon will be held in April at the Shanghai Motor Show, but for now it has been shown to local media. Photos of new items published edition Autohome.
Unlike the related Velite 5, which almost completely outwardly copies the Chevrolet Volt, the electric car has an original design, based on the three-year-old concept of the Buick Velite. The dimensions of the “six” have not yet been disclosed, only the trunk volume is known – 455 liters, with the rear seats folded down this figure increases to 1098 liters. The length of the Buick Velite 5 liftback is 4579 mm, the wheelbase is 2694 mm, the cargo hold is 300 liters. Salon Velite 6 is decorated in a concise style: the wagon received a fashionable now virtual dashboard and a multimedia system with a touch screen towering above the front panel.

Production of Buick Velite 6 will be established in China at the plant of the joint venture of concerns General Motors and SAIC, and the hybrid Velite 5 is also collected there. The price is still unknown. Velite 5 in the China will cost at least 265,800 yuan.
Meanwhile, the United States recently completed the production of donor Chevrolet Volt, the hybrid stayed on the conveyor for eight years: the release started at the end of 2010, in 2015, the Volt changed generation, and the last copy was collected in February of this year. The decision to abandon the model under the brand Chevrolet at GM was made due to weak sales. So, in 2018, 18,306 Volt cars were sold in the United States (-11% compared to 2018), while the Toyota Prius liftback, the main American competitor, sold 49,534 copies in the country (-32% ).
By the way, the demand for Buick Velite 5 in China is even smaller – just 2688 units sold in 2018. It is not excluded that the Buick hybrid will also be dismissed soon.
