The premiere of trucks of the fourth, fifth and sixth grades took place on the show of NTEA car workers in Indianapolis.

At the auto show debuted model Chevrolet Silverado 4500HD, 5500HD and 6500HD, built on a completely new platform, whose name is not yet disclosed. It is also unknown whether a cross-platform model under the GMC brand will be released. Expanding the line of Silverado, General Motors returns to the segment of cargo chassis with cabs, which left in 2009, when the production of Chevrolet Kodiak and GMC TopKick was discontinued. The new Chevrolet trucks will compete with the Ford F-450 / F-550 and F-650 / F-750, as well as the RAM 4500/5500 Tradesman.

The new trucks revised the design of the front, which increased visibility for the driver and, consequently, increased maneuverability. Also, the turning radius is reduced, and the new bonnet design facilitates maintenance and repair, as mechanics are facilitated access to most of the nodes and components. The fuel line now passes through the frame, which facilitates the task of installing the equipment on the platform. The cargo chassis of the Silverado HD will be offered in 12 variants.

Although, the Chevy Silverado HD 4500/5500/6500 is designed for commercial use, it is developed as user-friendly as possible. They also have the “greatest online connectivity among commercial trucks”, including 4G LTE, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Also available is wireless charging for the smartphone.

The new Silverado is equipped with Duramax diesel engine of 6.6 liters, the output of which is 350 hp. and 950 Nm of torque. The engine is combined with Allison’s six-speed automatic transmission, rear or all-wheel drive.

Recall that the previous generation of Chevrolet trucks of this class, which were sold in the market under the name Kodiak from 2003 to 2009, were based on the platform GMT530, which was shared with GMC TopKick and Isuzu H-Series. The first Kodiak entered the market in the distant 1980. The chassis was offered with a two- and four-door cab.

Kodiak’s power range included two V8 petrol engines – the 8.1-liter Big-Block and a 7.4 liter Vortec, as well as two Caterpillar 3126B / E diesel engines of 7.2 liters and 3116 6.6 liters. The engines were combined with a five-band “automatic” Allison (until 2006) and six-band Allison (after 2006).

Prices for the Chevrolet Silverado HD 2019 model year will be announced in the summer, and sales of new items will start at the end of this year. Starting price tag Chevrolet Kodiak was 48,208 dollars
