Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 will receive a 900-horsepower hybrid powertrainNovember 24, 2019
The eighth generation Chevrolet Corvette will acquire a variation of the ZR1, which will receive a V8 turbo engine with a performance of 900 hp. and an electric all-wheel drive system.
According to Motor Trend, the ZR1 version will be the first hybrid Corvette. Along with the V8 engine with a turbocharger and a flat crankshaft, an electric motor will work. So, the total power of the power unit will reach 900 hp. At the same time, electrification is not limited to this: two electric motors will be installed on the front axle, due to which they will carry out all-wheel drive – also for the first time in the history of Corvette.
In addition, according to a portal source, the rumors about the Cadillac 4.2-liter Blackwing engine, which they allegedly promised to equip the Corvette, are untrue.
In fact, GM has provided the Cadillac and Chevrolet brands with the resources and capabilities to create two different V8s at once. Engineers working on the Corvette promise that the hybrid system will provide a lower center of gravity of the machine, which, despite the increase in weight, will guarantee excellent handling.
In addition, it was previously announced that Chevrolet has released the latest Corvette front engine model. For 66 years, Chevrolet Corvette cars had the engine in front.
