Chevrolet Corvette will be equipped with active aerodynamicsAugust 14, 2018
Concern General Motors patented a complex of active aerodynamics for the sports car Chevrolet Corvette. Three separate documents describe the operation of moving side skirts, a rear spoiler and a downforce generating ducts. This is reported by the site Corvetteblogger.
The GM patent states that with the help of special actuators, active side skirts can be lowered and raised. Their position depends on the speed of the wheel and the speed of the machine relative to the ground.
For the adjustable spoiler, a change in height and angle of attack is provided, which varies depending on the speed of the air flow, the angle of rotation of the rudder and the magnitude of the longitudinal acceleration.
The third patent describes the completely closed construction of ducts with movable flaps. They are placed in the upper or lower part of the body of the machine and are used to create an additional clamping force. A feature of the system is the possibility of using a nozzle to accelerate the air flow.
The patent documentation uses Corvette images of the current generation, but the complex of active aerodynamics will be adapted to the new mid-engine model. As previously reported, it will include an electronically controlled spoiler and a suspension system with an elevator system capable of changing the center of aerodynamic pressure.
