In China, the official presentation of the firstborn of the new subsidiary brand Chery – Exeed. The model will go on sale this spring.

New Exeed sub-brand Chery introduced in China in November 2018. The brand inherited its name from the conceptual SUV, which debuted in 2017 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The brand is considered to be premium, the cars produced under it will compete with the models of Wey (owned by Great Wall) and Lynk & Co (a joint project of Geely and Volvo). The concept, by the way, turned into the firstborn of the Exeed brand, its design was declassified at the end of last year: then the Chinese showed the car under the TXL symbol. Now it turned out that last year’s cross is an elongated version, whereas today there was a presentation of a “short” version, which goes on sale under the name Exeed TX.

At the heart of the Exeed SUV is the new M3X platform with independent rear suspension. The platform was designed with the participation of the German company Benteler. According to local media profiles, the length of the TX is 4,690 mm, the wheelbase is 2,715 mm. Note that our updated Nissan X-Trail has the same length as the Chinese, the distance between the axes of the model of the Japanese brand is 2705 mm. The length of the “stretched” Exeed TXL – 4750 mm, wheelbase – 2800 mm. Thus, this version is not too far in size from, for example, Nissan Murano (4898 and 2825 mm).

Both standard and elongated SUVs outside and inside almost completely repeat last year’s concept. The only noticeable difference in the exterior is the other grille. In the salon, they only replaced the touchscreen of the multimedia system. It is curious that there seems to be no provision for a TXL three-row version – at least, the Chinese media have not yet published pictures of such machines. If the “stretched” option will remain five-seater, then it is apparently intended for those customers who prefer to move in the back seat.

The list of equipment includes all-round cameras, a collision avoidance system, automatic emergency braking and a warning about leaving the occupied lane, a driver, and adaptive cruise control.

The engine for the Exeed crossover has so far been announced only one – this is the new petrol turbo four 1.6 (factory index SQRF4J16), which produces 197 hp and 290 Nm. The motor is combined with the manual or with a seven-speed robotic gearbox with double clutch from Getrag. At the moment, it is not known whether TX / TXL has version 4WD. Meanwhile, the concept was an all-wheel-drive hybrid, the structure of its installation included a 156-horsepower 1.5 turbo engine and a 116 hp electric motor. It is possible that the serial crossover later also get a hybrid version.

The start of Exeed TX / TXL sales is scheduled for March of this year, while the brand will be presented only in China. In the future, the company expects to enter the European market, but for the Old World is likely to launch another subbrand.

By the way, Chery’s experience in creating subsidiary brands is quite rich, although you can’t call it successful. So, the Rely and Riich brands have long ceased to exist, in 2017 the Chinese company got rid of the controlling stakes in Cowin and Qoros (this brand also tried to gain a foothold in Europe). However, the Chery brand continues to produce low-cost vans and minivans today, and more recently Chery introduced another new sub-brand – Jetour, it is aimed at young people.
