Cupra is only a few months away from the official launch of el-Born. The Seat Performance brand has announced that the compact electric vehicle will premiere in mid-2021.
The El-Born is a slightly more powerful variant of the Volkswagen ID.3 and the Group’s first zero-emission sports hatchback to be part of the exclusive Cupra range. It will share the MEB platform with ID.3 and will be manufactured in the same plant in Zwickau, Germany. The model is expected to be powered by a 201 hp electric motor. and will drive the rear wheels. According to Cupra, el-Born takes 2.9 seconds to accelerate from 0-60 km / h, and with a fully charged 77 kWh battery, it should have a range of around 500 km.
The El-Born was announced as a concept at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, and it has much in common with it in terms of design. As such, identical front and rear fascia, aggressive side skirts, a slightly curved roofline, large wheels and bronze accents are expected.
Its ID.3 roots will be more visible on the inside as well, where it gets a two-tier instrument cluster, a free-standing digital instrument cluster and a three-spoke steering wheel. The center console will be slightly raised compared to the electric Volkswagen, and it will have excellent trim colors. El-Born can be slightly more expensive than the ID.3, which starts from around 35,000 euros in Germany.
