Charged crossovers BMW X3 M and X4 M officially announcedSeptember 9, 2018
According to the representatives of the Bavarian automaker, the newly developed in-line engine with 6 cylinders has high dynamic characteristics. According to unofficial information, presentations of high-performance novelties can be expected already this year.
For the German brand BMW this week is held under the letter X – representatives of the company announced a new flagship crossover BMW X7, a high-performance version of the BMW X2 M35i, and an electrified version of the mid-sized model X5 xDrive45e. But it turns out that the Bavarians still have a couple of good news for us – they also concern crossover novelties.
The guys from BMW are currently busy developing not one, but two high-performance versions of their crossovers – it’s about the model X3 M and X4 M. And a couple of hours ago, the company’s press service published photographs of camouflaged prototypes of these cars. It is reported that the novelties in a couple of days will be tested on the German track Nürburgring.
At the moment it is known that the “charged” version of the Bavarian crossovers will receive a newly developed in-line 6-cylinder turbocharged engine that will work with the proprietary xDrive all-wheel drive system. For the first time, this engine was installed in the high-performance version of the business sedan M5.
Most likely, it is a BMW S58 engine, which is essentially an upgraded version of the B58. With a working volume of 3.0 liters, it can produce at least 450 horsepower of power, although some sources say a figure of 475 hp. It is also reported that the same engine will be equipped with a completely new M3 and M4.
Among other things, the “charged” BMW X3 M and X4 M will receive an active rear axle differential, 4 twin exhaust pipes, huge air intakes, and new aerodynamic body kit.
The fact that BMW decided to present a “first glance” at the same time to 2 of its novelties can say that their official presentation can take place already this year.
Not so long ago, we wrote that within the framework of a special event a high-performance version of the crossover BMW X2 M35i was shown.
