Changan will redo the Suzuki Vitara crossover to your taste

The Chinese brand has already managed to patent the design of the new SUV, the basis for which was the Japanese bestseller Suzuki Vitara.

Due to low sales, Suzuki minimized its activities in China. In the first half of 2018, a deal was concluded to sell shares in a joint venture with Changhe, a member of the BAIC concern. By the end of the year, it became known about the sale of another 50% stake in another joint venture. By the way, local experts record a decline in demand for Suzuki cars for several years. For comparison, in 2012-2014, the brand sold 230-250 thousand of its cars a year. In 2017, this figure dropped to 118 thousand, and last year could not exceed the mark of 46 thousand. At the same time, the former joint venture, having tried on the status of a subsidiary of Changan, is working on a new crossover, the patent image of which has already been registered according to all the rules.

The novelty is made in the style of Changan, but it is clear that the developers of the SUV were looking for inspiration in the design of the current Suzuki Vitara.

The new cross from Changan will receive a recognizable Changan CS55 grille, redesigned bumpers and a red trim between the rear lights. The interior was also not without innovations: experts expect to see digital dashboard and advanced multimedia in the interior of the novelty, which the brand managed to test on other models.

The cross line will include a 1.6-liter 122-horsepower gasoline aspirated and a 1.4-liter 140-horsepower turbo engine. “Junior” works in tandem with 5-speed manual transmission, and “senior” – 6-speed manual transmission or automatic transmission in six steps, writes “Autohome”. There is no information on the date of the presentation of the Chinese SUV with Japanese roots. Apparently, it will be organized next year.

But the fact that the car does not go beyond the home market is a fact. They are even going to sell the new product under the Suzuki brand. So it turned out a kind of local restyling. Recall, at one time, the Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucsan and MMC ASX underwent a similar “local” upgrade.
