Volvo Cars and Volvo Trucks share live vehicle data to improve traffic safety

Recall that now the owner of Volvo Cars is the Chinese concern Geely, while Volvo Truck is controlled by the Swedish AB Volvo. However, earlier we reported that Geely became the largest shareholder of AB Volvo.

Now the manufacturers have announced the unification of their cloud services, which will allow real-time data exchange between cars. Thus, Volvo cars and trucks will later notify the Network of an emergency stop, while the information is transmitted anonymously – which car will not be reported.

For example, if the car is stopped for some reason in the middle of the road, drivers of other Volvo cars will have warning information about this, for example, before a turn or a tunnel that restricts line of sight. Safety on the road will increase, as drivers will have the opportunity to begin braking in advance.

In the future, cars will receive a warning about slippery roads or fog in a similar way.

So, already this year, Volvo’s “cars”, which are equipped with the Hazard Light Alert system, will receive data from Volvo trucks. The system is included in the list of standard equipment from 2016 on models 60 and 90 series, as well as crossovers XC40 in the performance for the Swedish and Norwegian markets. The inclusion of trucks in the network will increase the coverage of the system and allow drivers to avoid danger in advance.
